Busy Day

Getting things finished up before the New Year, lots of appointments, with a run to Physical Therapy for my daughter, Kara. Quick trip to Aldi's , almost $10. Got 10 lbs potatoes, 75 ft foil (it good) white bread for 79 cents and a box of garbage bags for $2.49. Really I don't think any other brand beats them.

Laughing at Yourself

Ok, I admit it I am one of a kind. Saving money, receipts, coupons and rebates, even I must take a good look back at 2008 and chuckle. Can I be the only one? Here are just a few things my family and friends find extreme:
1) Everyone knows at work I always have an extra baggie in my pocket (of course it is slightly used)
2) Internet coupons galore. Do I really need to have so many?
3) My rummage sale purchases, how many 10 cent sweaters can I possibly wear?
4)Fighting over the internet, whereas a year ago I barely used it.
5) Refusing to pay full price for anything.
6) Running to the mailbox to see my free samples
7) Never paying for panties , I only use my free Victoria Secret panty coupons.
8) Accepting anything for free ( I can give it away later if I have no use for it!)
9) Scanning grocery and drug store ads with a fine tooth comb.
10)Actually sending away for rebates.
With a smirk and a mattress full of money , I can only hope this list can grow in 2009!

Keeping it in Perspective

Wow, already its Christmas time! Are your gifts all wrapped? Are the cookies baked? Or maybe the gifts aren't even bought yet. Everyone is just so busy this time of year. Maybe we should look at the bigger picture.

Spending time with your family is truly priceless and there is no better gift. Funny, Kristie and I actually made our cookie dough, rolled it out and baked it together. The time was great. We laughed, talked and even cussed when the dough just didn't do good, but most of all we spent time together. Really did your mom buy frozen preshaped Christmas cookies and ready made frosting? I doubt it. I won't even discuss the cost of that, I am told about $15 as compared to homemade for under $5.

Take the time to regroup, go to church, meditate or even have a quiet moment. Christmas season is so short don't let it slip by. Few remember the gifts they got from year to year, but most of us can laugh at the stupid card games we play with the family on Christmas Eve. No one in my family will forget the year the Christmas turkey was spoiled and we burned up our micowave trying to thaw out a new one at 1am on Christmas morning.

Keep the season light and remember to have fun. In 12 short months we will be doing it again.
